Umberto Lanaro

Padova

Biography

Umberto Lanaro was a maker active in Padova during the latter twentieth century. He produced both violins and violas, signing his instruments with the full inscription 'Umberto Lanaro fece in Padova' followed by the year of manufacture [1][2]. His documented output spans at least the period 1973–1981 [1][2][3]. Lanaro employed consistent internal marking practices, inscribing his name and date on both front and back plates, and branding his monogram (LU) internally on the back and top block [1][2][3]. His violas ranged in back length from 41.5 cm to 42.8 cm, while his documented violin measured 35.8 cm in back length [1][2][3].
