Giovanni Battista Guadagnini

ItalianTurin

Biography

Giovanni Battista Guadagnini was an Italian luthier of Cremonese origin who worked in multiple cities throughout his career. He is identified as the son of Laurentius Guadagnini on instruments labeled from Piacenza [1][6]. Early in his career, Guadagnini made instruments in Piacenza, with documented examples from 1742, 1744, and 1747 [1][6][8]. He subsequently worked in Milan, where labeled instruments date to 1756 and 1757 [9][10]. By the later period of his career, Guadagnini established himself in Turin, producing instruments from at least 1779 through 1783 [2][3][7]. On his Turin instruments, he identified himself as a student (alumnus) of Antonio Stradivari [2][3][4][7].
