George Wulme-Hudson

EnglishLondon

Biography

George Wulme-Hudson was an English violin maker active in London during the early-to-mid twentieth century. His instruments bear labels reading 'Geo. Wulme-Hudson fecit London' or variants thereof, with dated examples spanning from 1902 to 1948 [1][2][3][6][7][8]. He employed internal branding on top and bottom blocks as a maker's mark [1][2][3][6][7]. Hudson's working life extended at least forty-six years, with documented instruments produced in 1902, 1910, 1925, 1939, and 1948. His violins exhibit consistent back lengths between 35.6–35.9 cm, suggesting adherence to a standardized model [1][2][3][6][7][8]. He trained at least one apprentice, John Read, who later became a restorer and maker in his own right, working from Forest View Road, Walthamstow (E17) and identifying himself as 'Pupil of Geo. Wulme Hudson' in 1946 [1].
